My mother and two aunts taught me to be an artist

Cyanotypes and vandykes on wood, thread, found objects.
This book was made in recognition of the woman who raised me. Growing up in a household surrounded mostly by women, I watched my grandmother, mother and aunts knit, crochet sew and embroider. I also saw them support their family and grapple with all sorts of difficulties while remaining strong. The printed text taken from the Codex Mendoza complements the resistance and courage against adversities these women had, and at the same time, it is a personal reminder of my ancestral origins.
